Instructor Led Certification Course

Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers is a 4 hour certification course for healthcare providers such as EMS personnel, physician assistants, doctors, dentists, nurses, and respiratory therapists who are required to have a credential (card) documenting successful completion of a CPR course. It includes all modules of CPR and AED plus two-rescuer scenarios and use of the bag valve mask. Class size is 4 to 12.

BLS for HCP Online includes a series of modules, Part 1, that cover all required material in the Healthcare Provider Course. Participants complete the HCP exam online. Those who successfully complete Part 1 receive a certificate, and can take the Part 2 practice and Part 3 skills validation test with a CASTT instructor and earn a course completion card.

Steps for completing BLS for HCP Online when you do Part 1 on your own

Completing Part 1, the Cognitive section. With your credit card at hand, go to www.onlineaha.org and register for BLS Healthcare Provider. (For website Technical Assistance, call 1-888-242-8883). It will cost $17.50. Complete the online, cognitive part of the course and answer the review questions. It should only take you about 90 minutes. Work at your own pace, at home or at work. Make note of your access code, and once you log in and enter all pertinent information, you may enter and exit as often as needed to complete the course, at any convenient computer. You need to complete an entire section before exiting or you will go back to the beginning of that section when you re-enter. When you have finished all Part 1 modules, a certificate of completion will be available for you to print and email to CASTT@CASTT.net or call the information to 714 546-4252. After completing the online program, you are allowed up to 60 days to complete the skills practice and skills check in Part 2 and Part 3. The BLS HCP student keys are active for 12 months from the day of enrollment. This allows you to re-login and go to the student review section for intermittent refreshers after you have completed your certification.

Completing Part 2 Skills Review and Part 3 Skills Testing. Call CASTT at 714 546-4252 and make an appointment that fits your schedule. The appointment should be about an hour and a half and will cost $40, cash, check or credit card. When you make the appointment, you will need to be sure CASTT has received your Part 1 Completion Certificate, so it can be validated. It is quick and simple and your American Heart Association certification will be good for two years as usual.
